One Off Places

As well as trying to get the final touches in place on the property, we’ve had to think about marketing.  In our case, we plan to advertise almost exclusively online and so we’re gradually piecing together the website and, equally importantly, trying to get the word out about it.  In the last couple of weeks I’ve trawled countless websites – websites catering specifically for the self-catering industry, websites focussed on Cumbria, and websites that concentrate on the best that’s out there.  With regards to the latter, one handy site we found was One Off Places which, as the name implies, has unearthed a variety of properties worldwide that stand out from the crowd.  Since we’re offering something that goes above and beyond the norm, we’re pleased to be associated with the site and would urge other self-caterers striving to offer something luxurious to also take a look.

Forthcoming events at Kendal’s Brewery Arts Centre

Kendal’s Brewery Arts Centre has published its “What’s On” guide for events from April to August 2010 and there’s all sorts of treats in store.  The Scamp Theatre will be performing a family friendly production of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ (26th April); poet John Hegley – who I saw a long time ago in my University days – will be telling tales about a Frenchman with some unusual habits in ‘The Adventures of Monsieur Robinet’ (20th May); Oddsocks Theatre Company is presenting ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream’ (4th July); comedian Arthur Smith is going to be in town (23rd April) with his ‘At Large’ show; and Mercury-prize nominated folk singer Seth Lakeman will be performing (8th April).  This is just a small handful of the events taking place – see their website for the full programme.

All hands to the pump

It’s all hands to the pump at the moment as we ensure that everything is ready for photographs to be taken in about 10 days time.  We were in the property for 7am sharp this morning to receive some bedroom furniture with one of those “we’ll deliver some time between 7am and 1pm” delivery slots. Thankfully we didn’t have to wait in too long as they were there by 9.30am but we can think of many worse places to while away a few hours! Tomorrow we have a fitted wardrobe being assembled and mattresses being delivered, and on Thursday we should be receiving the sofas from Laura Ashley.  Blinds and curtains are being fitted at the beginning of next week and by then we should be pretty much done and dusted, bar a few minor finishing touches.
