Interactive Christmas lights in Kendal

Wainwright’s Yard in Kendal will pulse this Christmas with lights that respond to the rhythm of shoppers moving through it thanks to an installation by the renowned light artist Peter Freeman whose work, largely in the south, includes illuminating bridges, museums, opera houses, arts centres, and more locally the ‘glam rocks’ on Blackpool promenade.

This, innovative Christmas arts project, involving school children, wider community members, Kendal Windows on Art (KWoA) and the tenants of Wainwright’s Yard, is a first for the town and is an alternative to a more traditional lighting approach. It forms part of a KWoA community art programme encouraging people to find and showcase their hidden creativity.

Alongside Peter’s sparkling installation, site specific artworks by local artists Pam Williamson and Trevor Avery and wintry art displays by pupils at Ghyllside Primary School, working with Nicki Smith, will be in Wainwright’s Yard.

The Christmas lights official switch in the yard takes place at 6pm on Friday 12th November 2010.
