Stricklandgate House has seen a half-a-million pound project to restore a its heritage come to fruition. The facelift of the building in the town, which was built in 1776, has been finished and now a website has been launched to celebrate the Heritage Lottery-funded project. Here you can enjoy both audio and visual historical accounts about Kendal, and learn about its canal, as well as the various trades that have been unique to the town. Much of the material has been written and compiled by Kendal Civic Society.

“Great apartment and thanks for bottle of wine. Weather mixed bag but didn’t spoil great days out to see various lakes, go on river cruise, browse around Rheged, walk around Grizedale Forest, look around Windermere, Keswick, Bowness and to other National Trust properties – so much to do! Had lovely meals at Deja Vu, Artisan, New Moon, Sawadee Thai and Mumbai Indian. Also at The Punchbowl at Crosthwaite. Overall just lovely – thank you! We loved it!!”

Guests visiting us by train over the coming months will be able to admire the work of local artists as they arrive at Oxenholme the Lake District train station. In a scheme set up by the Lakes Line Community Rail Partnership and backed by local businesses and Virgin Trains, 12 works of art by students from Kendal College have been displayed in the station’s waiting rooms, on walls and on railings. Talking about the initiative, local MP Tim Farron said, “I would like to particularly praise the students whose magnificent work is on show at the station. What they have done is truly inspirational and really lights up the station.”
