A short break in London… no? Then how about Kendal?

I’ve blogged many times about how I can never understand why so many overseas visitors flock to London and rarely explore further afield.  Even when they do, it’s sometimes on a whirlwind coach journey that takes them hurtling through the Cotswolds, the Lake District, into the Highlands and back down the M1 with a brief stop at York Minster to stretch their legs, all in less than 48 hours. Madness!

And so to is what’s going on in London at the moment.  London is deservedly popular for many reasons but I do wish sometimes that people would see there’s so much more to the country than just the capital.  And maybe the riots – disgraceful though they are – will make visitors do just that.  There will be many people that had been planning a short break in London some time in the near future but are now re-assessing and perhaps considering what alternatives are out there.

Naturally, I’d like to propose Kendal.  Crime here is thankfully very low (see this story for what it’s like on a busy news day!) and, just as importantly, the town has a great deal to offer.  There’s the Brewery Arts Centre with a great mix of events year round, Kendal Castle (our apartment balcony looks out on to it), various museums, an art gallery, cafés and some great little restaurants, as well as pubs, bars, shops, and so on and so forth.  What’s more, we’re sandwiched between two of the country’s most beautiful National Parks – if not, the most beautiful – the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.

So… why not give it a try?  If you’d like to know more or are looking for something a little different, please get in touch.
