Kendal voted second best place to live in the UK

KendalWe’ve often thought how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful part of the world, so were not surprised recently to learn that Kendal achieved number two spot in a recent Sunday Times article that outlined the 101 best towns to live in in the UK. In fact, it was the only town in the whole of the north of England to make the top 50!

Kendal was particularly praised for its vibrant community, transport links, friendliness and “superlative shopping, bags of community spirit and an enviable location”.

They went on to say:

“The scenic surrounds, low crime rate, vibrant community activities and wide-ranging programme at the Brewery Arts Centre all add to Kendal’s appeal.

House prices are… relatively pricey, but there is no shortage of beautiful barn conversions, small farmhouses and period country homes in the surrounding villages ranging from £500,000 to about £1m.

Why we love it: Friendly, fecund and slap bang in the middle of some of the world’s most beautiful countryside.”

Only Stamford in Lincolnshire topped Kendal in the list.  A lovely place though I’m sure Stamford is too, I’d personally sooner have the hills and scenery of the Lakes and Dales than the relative flatness of the Wolds.
